Kingfisher Information Services |
This is a new free information service for fishermen which is now available from Kingfisher. It focuses on providing up-to-date and accurate information on the increasing oil industry related activity in the West of Shetlands and Irish Sea areas. Through the cooperation of Oil & Gas UK - a digital database has been set up by a specialist mapping company - EMS Limited - from which a range of data has been prepared for your use. This includes Awareness Charts, Hazard Coordinate listings, Onboard plotter data and Area Notebooks.
This service is updated as and when new information is received. Further information is provided in the Fortnightly Bulletin and on the Yellow & Blue Cards. |
Awareness Charts
Full colour A4 Awareness Charts are available for all areas from which information has been received. They cover an area of 10 minutes of latitiude by 12 minutes of longitude, correspond to the standard oil industry concessionary block numbering system for the area and are prefixed the letters SR. For example, chart SR204/24 represents the concession block 24 within quadrant 204 and is bounded by the coordinates 60°10'N, 60°20'N, 4°12'W, 4°24'W.
All data is plotted using WGS84 datum on a Mercator projection. A comprehensive range of hazards are shown and a Legend Sheet provides a standard reference.
Click on the highlighted areas in the chart for more information.

|
Where installations straddle a number of concession blocks then you can refer to Regional Charts which are prefixed by the letter L, for example, L204, which covers both the Foinaven and Schiehallion developments West of Shetlands. These vary in scale according to the size of the installations.

HAZARD COORDINATE LISTINGS
Many Awareness Charts have associated Hazard Coordinate Listing Sheets which contain the positions of all the sub sea hazards depicted on the colour plot. The sheets are suffixed by the letter S, for example sheet 204/24S contains the positions for hazards on chart SR204/24. All positions are in geographical coordinates, based on WGS84 Datum, with an accuracy to two decimal places of minutes. Some Charts have co-ordinates listed on the charts themselves. |
